Job Search Assistance

The Career Center offers job search assistance to current students, upcoming graduates and alumni by facilitating connections with employers and teaching individuals how to conduct effective job searches.

NACE Job Outlook

View information from National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) on Job Outlook for 2012.  The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) publishes an annual report of hiring trends and hiring practices of employers. Learn what qualities employers are seeking in new hires!  The Career Center is a member of NACE and also has access to Job Choices Magazine online, a helpful resource for job seekers. 

E-LEADS

The e-leads tool is a search engine designed to provide students with career leads. The information is gathered by participating NC Universities and is updated annually.

LEXIS-NEXIS

Use this powerful web site containing over 6000 newspapers and magazines to research potential employers and review annual reports.  The Ramsey Library has subscribed to this resource, so you should be able to link directly to LEXIS-NEXIS from on-campus computers.  You can access the site from off-campus, it will simply ask for your name and password which is usually your social security number followed by a one on the end.

NC LIVE Business Portal

Contains free access to full-text articles from the Wall Street Journal, expensive market research data, demographic mapping, company listings from ReferenceUSA, information on starting a small business, business planning, investment research, and more.

NC LIVE Jobs Portal

Features resume and cover letter information, Career Library, links to job openings and more.

Professional Mentor Network

Contact UNCA Alumni who are currently working in their career field to gain first hand knowledge of what it takes to be successful in your job search. Learn what employers are looking for in new hires, develop a network of professional contacts and uncover hidden opportunities through informational interviewing.

Recruiting Events

Each fall, the Career Center organizes a Career Fair which brings employers, graduate schools and government agencies to campus. All students are encouraged to attend this event to explore career options, internship possibilities and employment opportunities. During the spring semester, connect with employers during special recruitment events such as the Summer Employment Fair and Networking Events.

A very comprehensive web site for job hunting and career exploration. It provides links to commercial job posting services, employer homepages, city information, professional associations, and other colleges.

Riley Guide
One of the earliest and best-recognized electronic job search guides.

College Grad Job Hunter
Valuable web resource based on the popular book by the same title.

Job Hunter's Bible
Author of one of most recognized career books, "What Color is Your Parachute?"

JobProfiles.org
Experienced workers share real-life job descriptions including rewards of the job, stresses of the job, skills required for the job and advice for entering the field.

MedHunters.com
Looking for a job in healthcare? MedHunters.com is a job board for healthcare professionals listing jobs from across the USA, Canada, and overseas.  The site also includes articles on self-assessment and career strategy, as stories about healthcare professionals and issues in healthcare.

A comprehensive search engine and tool for job seekers, and is completely free. In one search, Indeed gives students instant access to millions of jobs and internships from sources such as Monster, HotJobs, CareerBuilder, the New York Times and Fortune 500 corporate websites. It draws from thousands of other sources as well, including small industry-specific job boards, local newspapers and associations.

Career network with resume management system and lots of valuable job search info. Formerly JobTrak.com. Password for use off-campus is "bulldog."

Resume-Writing and Cover Letter Assistance

Our Resume Guide and video tutorial provides general guidelines for creating a resume along with examples from previous students. Our Cover Letter Guide can assist you in writing cover letters and thank you letters. The Career Center staff is also available to critique resumes or cover letters and to discuss possible job search strategies.

We have Counselors and staff to assist with Resume Review and Cover Letter writing.  Call 251-6515 to make an appointment , or visit during our walk in hours.

Mock Interviews

Brush up on your interviewing skills by arranging a mock interview. Also visit our Virtual Career Center for interview resources. Practice interviews are invaluable preparation for internship or full-time job interviewing, and can be taped for you. Call the Career Center at 251-6515 to make an appointment.
