Self-Assessment

Student counseling session in the career centerSelf-assessment is a process by which you learn more about yourself -- what you like, what you don't like, and how you tend to react to certain situations. Knowing these things can help you determine what occupations might fit you better than others and what kind of work situations might work better for you.

At UNC Asheville, students and alumni may take the a set of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and the Strong Interest Inventories one time at no charge.  Both the MBTI and STRONG are offered in the Career Center through one-on-one appointments. Please contact the Career Center at 828.251.6515 or stop by our office at 259 Highsmith Union if you are interested in taking the MBTI and/or STRONG.

Myers-Briggs Type Indicator

The MBTI is the most widely used personality inventory in the world. The preferences suggested by the MBTI can help you make career and personal decisions, with scores highlighting preferences on four dimensions. The various combinations of these preferences result in one of 16 personality types, which relate to career choices, communication modes and learning styles.

Strong Interest Inventory

The Strong Interest Inventory measures your interests in a broad range of occupations, work activities, leisure activities, and school subjects applicable to a variety of career and major choices.

In addition, we recommend the following resources for self-assessment:
